Fratangelo and Escobedo Repeat Triple Tiebreaker Rivalry in Vegas

It may be an ATP record as Bjorn Fratangelo and Ernesto Escobedo played their second consecutive three tiebreaker duel yesterday in Las Vegas Challenger R32.

Escobedo won 67(6) 76(2) 76(5) as he did the last time the pair met two years ago at the Aptos Challenger. Escobedo won that time by an even more competitive 76(2) 67 (5) 76(12).

Fratangelo had won their first two meetings in Houston qualies (2016) and Savannah Challenger (2015) in straight sets 62 75 and 64 61.

The curious aspect of this unique American rivalry is that both Escobedo, ranked 161, and Fratangelo (172), are baseliners. And obviously by these last six set scores, very, very evenly talented physically and mentally.

Escobedo, age 24, has had the better year this year, going 5-4 in the ATP level, while Fratangelo, age 28, is 3-4. In his career Escobedo has a won loss record of 20-33 and Fratangelo is 22-38.
