Federer and Djokovic Media Image Management Contrast

By Scoop Malinowski

“The media has the power to make the innocent look guilty and the guilty look innocent.” – Malcolm X

This fascinating quotation may also apply to tennis and the image management control of the favorite “perfect” champion of tennis who is the darling of the media and the other greater champion who is viewed and inaccurately portrayed as the villain.

A couple of former ATP players weighed in on this topic:

Wayne Odesnik: I might get some heat for this – and people can trash Nole all they want but he is one of the only top players in history actually trying to help the lower ranked players. I will go on record and say that Federer and Nadal have never done that. It’s a fact, I sat in those ATP player meetings many years ago and Federer was pushing for increases only at quarterfinals or better, he didn’t give a shit about the other players. Same as Nadal. Bravo Nole!!!!

Sander Groen: Yes, Federer for sure is all about marketing himself and his nice guy image is all a facade and fake. When I was playing with him he was still genuine. Part of that image is helping people in Africa. This is much better for commercial purposes than helping lower ranked players from non third world countries. Just look at his agent. If you know him personally, you know it is all fake. Maybe Nole should go to Africa with a big camera team to do something about his “bad” image. Why would you need a camera team with you if you do charity like that? I know how this charity works. A bunch of German students had to do some sports project for their university twenty years ago so they decided to organize a tennis exhibition for the Michael Stich Foundation. They asked Michael Stich for permission and also to participate. They were shocked to learn that in order to make him participate himself, he was asking for $30,000 for his own pocket. So they had to depend on lower ranked players like me to do it for free.

So you have to be careful accepting the sometimes fictional tennis media agendas, narratives and campaigns pushed into your senses.

“Image is everything!”

“Perception is reality.”

But the truth is never told, it has to be learned…

The amount of attention paid to these tennis player foundations is absurd. It comes up all the time and the media just takes it for granted that they are doing something particularly generous and productive, when it might be either, neither or both – but the media sure as hell doesn’t know. If were a tennis reporter, I would literally never mention these foundations. If the player still wants to fund it, fine, it’s their money, but it doesn’t merit fact-free public attention.

  • Scoop Malinowski · April 27, 2023 at 9:55 am

Bill, all foundations are suspect or curious. Don’t expect the media to challenge them. One good thing in America in the last six years is how public trust of the media has deteriorated massively. Citizen journalists are the new media. Fox news committed suicide this week by canceling it’s no. 1 asset Tucker Carlson.

Yes, Scoop, you have to question everything. Besides, the people who really do the most good in the world don’t go around advertising it. On the other hand, it’s possible to do charitable deeds with corrupt motives. I mean, if you’re only interested in helping others because it makes you look good, well, then you’re ultimately just helping yo’self. 😛

Citizen journalists are the new media.

At least while the Internet still allows it. And yes, it’s refreshing. 👏

Fox news committed suicide this week by canceling it’s no. 1 asset Tucker Carlson.

Really? Didn’t know that. But sadly, it seems Carlson was only in it for the $$$$$. He should’ve kicked those dirty dogs to the curb ages ago, but apparently he found his cash cow too enticing. 🤑

Well, at least maybe those who still thought Fox News had a shred of credibility will finally be picking up the red pill. 💊

Sam, Tucker was getting 3m viewers a night on Fox, his first video since the cancellation he got over 42m views. So his popularity is booming, like Djokovic after they tried to destroy him.

What on earth is going on here ? How long will Simona have to wait ? It seems very unfair to me.

  • Scoop Malinowski · April 28, 2023 at 7:37 am

Hate to say it but she must have been positive for them to stall the hearing, if she’s negative she should take legal action, this stalling is costing her millions. Why not take legal action??

  • Cory · April 28, 2023 at 10:48 am

Notice all the ridiculous things that get repeated endlessly by MSM as part of their deep state agenda – and then remember that valid ideas don’t need constant propagation; they stand as valid on their own. Tucker is the cream that will rise to the top. Much like Djokovic with this crusade. They can suppress the truth but it always finds ways out. Cream always rises.

  • Scoop Malinowski · April 28, 2023 at 11:31 am

Cory, they can hide the truth, they can bury, the truth, they can mock the truth… but they cannot kill the truth. They tried to cancel Djokovic but look what happened, they made him stronger than ever. This should be an inspiration for everyone.

  • catherine · April 28, 2023 at 12:12 pm

Scoop – yes, this occurred to me re Simona. She must be able to afford the best legal help. If she’s innocent then the endless delays are simply damaging her reputation right at the end of her career. If she’s guilty, best get it over with.

I’m surprised Patrick, who is sticking by her it seems, hasn’t made more of a fuss.

Details from Simona’s original interview reprinted from Tennis Majors.

  • Scoop Malinowski · April 28, 2023 at 12:28 pm

Good point Catherine, when the typically very talkative Mouratoglou silences himself on a topic like Simona’s drug test case, it only adds to the mystery and intrigue. You’d think he would be leading the media campaign to “Free Simona.” Something fishy about this whole episode.

  • catherine · April 29, 2023 at 2:33 am

I agree, there is something strange about this, and I’m not one for conspiracies normally.

I’ve seen discussion on another site where people have commented how isolated and unhappy Simona seems. I can’t imagine a top player from the US or Europe ending up in this situation. Innocent or guilty, she’s entitled to fair treatment and not to be left in limbo. Has Roumanian tennis turned its back on her ? Why did Virginia Ruzici jump ship ? Along with the collapse of her marriage life must be pretty miserable.

And yes, it’s odd that Patrick Motormouth, supposedly her coach, is uncharacteristically below the parapet. Is he nervous about events reflecting badly on his other tennis activities ? After all, her ‘team’ was Patrick’s team.

  • Scoop Malinowski · April 29, 2023 at 7:31 am

Catherine, Cahill and Ruzici made the obligatory support statements in the beginning but nothing since. It seems only players from small countries like Romania, Argentina, get caught. No big federation to help protect them like Spain, France, etc. If Halep is truly innocent why not take legal action? The way Halep is handling this is curious. If she’s truly innocent she should be screaming “I’m innocent!” from the rooftops and be doing media interview campaigns. Why would the tribunal intentionally drag it’s feet and stall? It would make them look like the villain. There’s only one logical assumption here and it would explain the rare silence of Mouratoglou.

That’s good to hear, Scoop. Hopefully he’s going to some place like Rumble at least and not slumming it over on some loser “social media” Website. 😛

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 1, 2023 at 9:01 pm

Sam, Carlson will grow even bigger and greater from this, no doubt about it.

  • Sam · May 3, 2023 at 6:26 am

    Yes, Scoop, hope he does.

By the way, do you think Nadal is going to end up playing Rome? 🤔

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 3, 2023 at 8:01 am

Definitely playing RG, 5050 on Rome, I’d lean to Rafa will play Rome. I think Rafa will have a cakewalk again to the semis in Paris again as usual. As in players just rolling over for the Nike superstar profit machine.

  • Sam · May 4, 2023 at 12:24 am

Interesting how his “injuries” have suddenly faded away with Paris approaching. 🤡

You’ve said previously that you think Nadal is done winning Slams. Are you sticking to that? 🙂

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 4, 2023 at 6:41 am

Sam I heard a strange crazy rumor that Nike is going to buy 23 for Rafa in Paris and he will win the title. It sounds absurd but I can’t fully disregard it. Especially after how last year looked a little odd, as if everyone just rolled over for Rafa. Based on his for over the last 9 months, yes Rafa looks finished. But so did Muhammad Ali after the Thrilla in Manilla in 1975 yet he boxed for more than five more year$.

Interesting, Scoop. How would they be planning to make Djokovic submit to this? 😏

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 4, 2023 at 8:28 pm

Mere speculation but no more political interference from now on. Find it curious that Goran has not been around lately, and Pepe Imaz has returned.

  • Sam · May 5, 2023 at 6:00 am

Pepe Imaz has returned?? That can’t be good. 😼

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 5, 2023 at 7:54 am

I know for a fact certain protected money making champions in boxing are not allowed to lose because they earn too much money for certain investors/entities/sponsors and they have the power to manipulate the game to suit their interests. Mayweather even boasted about it at one point, cockily bragging, “God won’t let me lose.” But then when he was challenged by certain dangerous fighters that his protectors could not fix he would cry excuses to duck that fighter, forgetting about his boast “God won’t let me lose.” It’s very possible tennis could employ a similar business model. Maybe Djokovic getting into US Open and Cincy is part of the deal.

  • Sam · May 5, 2023 at 3:07 pm

Well, Scoop, nothing much would surprise me at this point. But if Djokovic is actually cutting a deal with these sinister forces, that would be very disappointing. 😢

Interesting that Nadal is out of Rome now. Maybe this time he really does have some physical issues?? 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 5, 2023 at 8:55 pm

Or he knows RG is a done deal and he doesn’t want to risk any kind of real injury in Rome? No chance he skips RG. Too much at stake.

  • Sam · May 5, 2023 at 11:33 pm

Yeah, I think the only way he skips out on Paris is if he’s walking with a limp or something. 😉

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 6, 2023 at 7:38 am

Just hope this RG isn’t a WWF choreograph to install Rafa to 23 and counterfeit goat. But anything is po$$ible.

  • Sam · May 6, 2023 at 2:43 pm

Well, one bright spot is that these potential manipulators are often very clumsy in their execution. So, if there is elaborate choreography planned to hand Nadal the title, don’t you think many discerning tennis fans might pick up on it? 🕵️

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 6, 2023 at 4:36 pm

Well Sam, it may have happened last year at RG. Nadal had a cakewalk to final and a very easy final too, Ruud clearly didn’t come to win. Djokovi’s intensity vs Rafa in their showdown was also curiously substandard. That was not the real full throttle full intensity, full emotional adrenaline Novak.

  • Sam · May 7, 2023 at 3:53 am

Well Sam, it may have happened last year at RG. Nadal had a cakewalk to final and a very easy final too, Ruud clearly didn’t come to win.

I didn’t see that final, Scoop, but yes, it sounds like Ruud just bent over. 🐣

Djokovi’s intensity vs Rafa in their showdown was also curiously substandard. That was not the real full throttle full intensity, full emotional adrenaline Novak.

True, but the explanation for that might be that—emotionally, at least—Djokovic still hadn’t recovered from having the wind knocked out of his sails in Australia. Of course, there may have been some shenanigans too. 🦹‍♂️

Also, wasn’t Nadal in a lot better form last year than he seems to be in now? So, if the fix really is in, you’d think it would be somewhat obvious this year—or at least I hope it will be hard to conceal. Better yet, I hope any such plan flops hard. 🚮

  • Scoop Malinowski · May 7, 2023 at 7:22 am

Sam a lot of awakened people will be closely watching this RG with suspicion. Just leave it at that.
