Early Wimbledon Observations

Sebastian Korda stuns Alex DeMinaur with a 63 64 67 76 win. Korda just keeps on trucking up the rankings with these stunning results, to match his sisters, particularly Nelly Korda, who just won the Women’s LPGA two days ago in Atlanta. Nelly is now the LPGA no. 1 ranked golfer.

Su-Wei Hsieh may regret hitting with a nine year old Iga Swiatek (social media post), as the Polish woman has now stung the 35 year old Hsieh with two devastating defeats in the last month – a seven match point saving doubles victory at Roland Garros and the 64 64 win yesterday at Wimbledon. Hsieh surely hoped to do much better at Wimbledon, which may be her last singles appearance at the AELTC.

Feliciano Lopez lost to Dan Evans today in three sets but the Iron Man of Spain still added to his career streak of having not missed a major main draw since 2002 Australian Open. Lopez has played in every Grand Slam since French Open 2002. This still alive and extending record is assured of never being broken.

Frances Tiafoe looked like a world beater in dominating Stefanos Tsitsipas yesterday in three sets. The slumping American has had an ordinary 2020 and 2021 to this point but one match can alter a career. Tiafoe feels he has only “scratched the surface” in what he can accomplish.

Denis Kudla proved again his best surface is the grass court. At age 28 he has a losing record on all surfaces (53-99 overall) but is 22-21 career on grass. Kudla stung the former 2017 Wimbledon junior champ and 30 seed Alejandro Fokina Davidovich from two sets down yesterday 57 67 76 63 63. Kudla is ranked 114.

German Dominic Koepfer continues his mastery of American players, he beat Reilly Opelka in three sets. He also holds wins vs Taylor Fritz and Ryan Harrison.

Nick Kyrios being tested by Ugo the attacking Frenchman. We should have our bad boy’s psyche on boil the longer it goes. The pressure of Humbert’s style makes a perfect counter to Nick’s lazy genius.

Doug: We know Nick will do nothing at Wimbledon. He’ll show flashes of his genius and brilliance but he won’t win a grand slam, now, later or ever.

Good to see Americans doing well. There are 8 Americans in the second round (R64)!! Thats a lot.

And the first 3 of those 8 today won their second round matches and reached Third Round R32! Tiafoe, Fritz and Korda!! All nice players.. I think Korda will definitely go further.

Definitely agree that sibling performance and Petr Korda’s performance motivates Sebastian Korda a lot!!

If Nick Kyrgios does not win a Grand Slam in his career he is the biggest waste of talent in tennis history…Sebi Korda may be the first NEXT GEN guy to win a Grand Slam…Sam Querrey has the best serve of all time, his record still stands ten straight aces vs Blake in Indy in 2007 QF…Bibi bounced by Cornet, she looks like a basic player now, lost her superstardom shine.

Gaurang, Don’t forget Johnson too, he will play Fritz next. Kudla has to play Djokovic next 3R. Paul pulled out with a hurt foot so he could have done damage as he had a good draw too. Isner lost a marathon to Nishioka, tough loss. Querrey looks extremely dangerous with that serve blazing. Korda is going to win majors, he has all the right qualities and the weapons. Best young American since Roddick IMO.

Bye-bye Serena, hello Naomi. Our new Karen says press rules are outdated for the players and the slams are so intense for her. Boris Becker asked back “Your 23, you’re healthy, you’re wealthy, you’re family is good. Where’s the f’in pressure? But what could a has-been misogynist know about how the world’s highest paid female athlete feels? Don’t let’s forget he’s racist. Probably that mixed marriage divorce & kids.

Doug, forget about Osaka, let her go victimize herself for the rest of her life, tennis would like her but does not need her around. Plenty of other players who don’t complain or cry victimhood. It’s astonishing that Osaka could wreck her image so quickly, she went from adorable beloved shy kid to the biggest idiot complainer crybaby in tennis.

Fritz escapes Johnson 64 in fifth. Medevedev dismisses Alcarez in three. Thompson over Nishikori. Querrey bows out to James Duckworth who he had just beaten a few weeks ago on grass. Murray vs Shapovalov will be a nice 3R match. Pedro Martinez beat Monfils. Rublev vs Fognini next. Khachanov vs Tiafoe to get the winner of Korda vs. Evans. Fed vs. Norrie. Norrie is no pushover, I rate him a chance to knock off Fed, he doesn’t bow down to anyone.

Japan Olympics said no BLM statements, attire or protests will be accepted in the Olympics. Rightly so they will kick anyone out who does not obey the rules. Good to keep political BS out of sports.
