Biofile Steve Bellamy Interview

By Scoop Malinowski

Status: Founder of Tennis Channel and Chairman and CEO of new racquet sport TYPTI.

What Inspired The Idea For TYPTI? IT CAME TO ME OVER 30 YEARS AGO WHEN RUNNING SUMMER CAMPS AT THE PALISADES TENNIS CENTER. WE WERE SHORT ON COURTS… SO I BUILT SOME NEXT TO COURT #2 ON GRASS TO BADMINTON SPECS AS A WAY TO GET MORE KIDS HITTING BALLS. I SOON REALIZED THAT IT WAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SPORT THAT WAS AMAZING. SHORTLY AFTER I HAD THE TOP US JUNIORS PLAYING IT REGULARLY.

First Tennis Memory: BELLE MEADE MANOR APARTMENTS IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA WITH MY DAD.

First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered: DERRICK ROSTAGNO.

Last Book Read: I DON’T READ BOOKS.

Current Car: TESLA MODEL S.

Childhood Dreams: TO BE A PROFESSIONAL TENNIS PLAYER.

Greatest Moment Of Your Career: PROBABLY THE MOMENT THE TENNIS CHANNEL LAUNCHED.

Most Painful Career Moment: CAN’T REALLY RECALL ANYTHING TOO BAD.

Favorite Players To Watch: IN TYPTI ….. KAANU PATEL.

Funny Tennis Channel Memory: THE NEXT ONE SHOULD COVER BOTH…

Embarrassing Tennis Channel Memory: THE ONLY TRANSPONDER WE COULD GET TO LAUNCH THE TENNIS CHANNEL WAS FROM THE PLAYBOY CHANNEL. ON DAY ONE OF THE LAUNCH…. WHAT THEY SAID COULD NEVER HAPPEN…. HAPPENED, AND WE HAD PORN ON THE TENNIS CHANNEL FOR 5 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS. WE DIDN’T HAVE RATINGS THEN.

Favorite Artists: AMERICANA ROCK STAR…. MELLENCAMP, PETTY, REM, ETC.

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: I DON’T REALLY EAT ICE CREAM.

Is TYPTI essentially a mini tennis version which is tennis without all the running and court coverage?

IT’S POLAR OPPOSITE OF THAT. YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY TORTURE ONE ANOTHER WITH RUNNING. IT’S HARDER TO PUT THE BALL AWAY. WE’RE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SPORTS EVOLUTIONARY JOURNEY, BUT FOR NOW IT’S INCREDIBLY DEMANDING PHYSICALLY.

Why Do You Love TYPTI: YOU CAN DO SO MUCH WITH THE BALL BECAUSE YOU CAN IMPART SO MUCH SPIN ON THE BALL. ALSO THE SCORING IS THE BEST IN ALL RACQUET SPORTS. I LOVE LOVE LOVE TENNIS…. BUT I DON’T LOVE THE SCORING. I LOVE PICKLEBALL, BUT I CAN’T STAND THE SCORING. PLAY TYPTI ONCE AND YOU’LL BE HOOKED ON THE SCORING. EVERY POINT MATTERS.

Which Tennis Pros Do You Think Would Make The Best TYPTI Players? I’M NOT SURE…. WHOEVER IS BEST IN CHESS AND HAS REALLY FAST HANDS.

About TYPTI… The new racquet sport played on a standard pickleball court with a 22-inch strung racquet, a 3.5-inch diameter channeled foam ball, and a new scoring system. TYPTI begins with a national circuit, major partnerships, and committed top players to grow the sport rapidly.

A mixture of badminton and tennis, the sport is nearly noiseless and easy on the body, with low shock at impact and no overhead serve. It’s incredibly easy for beginners and chess like for the pros. Most of all, it’s incredibly fun to play for all levels. With the explosion of pickleball courts across the country, TYPTI launches with tens of billions of dollars of infrastructure already in place for players to adopt and embrace the sport.

Anyone who has a pickleball court now has a TYPTI court. “TYPTI reminds me of snowboarding in 1986,” said Tony Robbins, No. 1 New York Times best-selling author, and the world‘s No. 1 life and business strategist. “Snowboarding exploded profits at ski resorts by adding a second use case to the mountain. That’s what TYPTI will do for pickleball clubs and tennis clubs with pickleball. And the accessibility is unparalleled. While it’s mind-blowing what the top players are doing with the ball, beginners can have great rallies in minutes. That’s not typical for racquet sports, where the barriers of entry prevent the majority from using them as a tool for physical fitness. TYPTI blows the doors off those barriers and will be an unparalleled tool for physical fitness and mental health.”

This is the sport that should have happened in the first place which would have nipped Pickleball in the bud.

I checked out some vids on youtube. It can truly save our ears. There is one twist I didn’t expect, you can hit the ball with you hands/body.

Racquet paddle sports are the craze now, they could actually extinct football and boxing which are just too dangerous and physically costly.

The handball shot makes it more interesting – if you can remember that odd rule. Looks like fun. The weird soft ball may throw off one’s tennis game feel. I still like mini tennis in all four boxes the best as an alt for tennis. Ashley Harkleroad plays Typti https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHj3L9Y2NyM
