US Open Inside Scoops

Andy Murray is not too happy with Fernando Verdasco who he claims received illegal coaching in the locker room after a break during their four setter yesterday in the sweltering day heat. Then it was revealed by Michael Dickson of the Daily Mail that Marcos Bagdhatis witnessed Verdasco taking an ice bath in the locker room to help him cool off from the brutal heat. By Scoop Malinowski Leave it to Nick Kyrgios to spark the biggest controversy of the US Open ... so far. Today Nick was getting trounced by Pierre Hugues-Hebert on court 17. Nick double-faulted to squander the first set 4-6 and was down 0-3 in the second. The crowd was booing what appeared to be another Kyrgios tank. One witness said he saw Nick mutter to his box, "I'm done." Continue to read full article...

Medvedev Crushes Tsitsipas Again at US Open

It may just be the best grudge rivalry in tennis today. Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas almost game to blows after their Miami match earlier this year. After some turbulence about an injury timeout during the match, eventually won by the Russian, Medvedev verbally confronted Tsitsipas after, calling him a "bullsh**" Russian and practically daring him to fight instead of talk. My Latest Interview with La Segunda About Marcelo Rios

Daniel Fernandez contacted me again to ask some questions about my thoughts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame omitting Marcelo Rios from the latest 2019 induction class ballot which included Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Mary Pierce, Jonas Bjorkman, Thomas Muster, Goran Ivanisevic, Sergi Bruguera, Conchita Martinez, and Li Na. I guess I have become his American go-to guy to discuss Marcelo Rios and his status in the world of tennis. I said it before and I will say it again, Marcelo Rios deserves to be nominated and inducted into the Hall of Fame. Even the greatest player in tennis history agrees... By Scoop Malinowski Nick Kyrgios loves to ham up his performances with all kinds of stunts and shenanigans. In tonight's win vs. Albot which required four sets, Nick tried his tweeners and trick shots, his record breaking forehand smashes, his high risk second serves hitting 140 on the radar but he added a new twist to the Nick Kyrgios show tonight - he chattered away with ESPN courtside analyst Brad Gilbert. Talking about the US Open Heat

A tennis insider with close contact with the players said something to me the other day that still rings in my ears... he said, "The players are spoiled." They are paid absurd amounts to play tennis and win matches. Ever since they were teenagers and showed they could win tennis matches, their lives have been coddled and taken care of. Just keep playing and training and winning. The special ones make it to the Tour. Continue to read full article...
