Tomic Has The Eye Of The Tiger Now

tomic2 By Scoop Malinowski Watched a bit of the first set of Bernard Tomic vs Viktor Troicki, who are playing first round in Istanbul Turkey on Stadium court before a very sparse crowd. But the stakes are huge for Tomic, who got a wildcard into the mai draw despite a ranking of 210. Tomic is 25 now and making a spirited push to get back to the top echelon of the ATP, a status his talent surely merits. Continue to read full article...

Book Review: What it’s like to play Rafa Nadal

Rafa_Relieved I had the pleasure of meeting distinguished author Scoop Malinowski at the 2015 Citi Open. Facing Nadal: Symposium of a Champion is composed of interviews from over 50 ATP players – including Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, John Isner, Juan Martin Del Potro, Lleyton Hewitt, Jimmy Connors, Carlos Moya, Pat Cash, Stefan Kozlov, Feliciano Lopez, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Francis Tiafoe, Radek Stepanek, Ivan Ljubicic, James Blake, Marat Safin, and of course, Rafael Nadal. Insider Stories At Sarasota Open

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA There's a lot of history here at the Laurel Oaks Country Club, the site of this year's edition, the tenth Sarasota Open ATP Challenger. A long time figure here clued me in on several stories and anecdotes I had never heard before. Let me share some... Martina Navratilova once played an exhibition for kids against David MacPherson, the former ATP doubles player who is the coach of John Isner and the Bryan Brothers. It was contested about seven years ago and this battle of the sexes did not go so well for Martina. Navratilova was competitive with the Australian, but the pattern of the match was that eventually her short balls would allow MacPherson to drop shot her and those drop shots were, too put it mildly, not taken well by Martina.
