Following his spectacular loss to Hyeon Chung in three close, exciting sets last night in the Australian open quarterfinal, American Tennys Sandgren addressed the media with a wonderful opening statement.
Effectively setting the narrative on the issue by intelligently expressing his platform and his viewpoint on his terms and not allowing it to be clouded and slandered by an angry wolfpack media eager to besmirch this brave, talented young man who has the courage to go against the grain and political correctness to express some of his unique (and controversial) opinions and views. Sandgren put his candidly direct statement out there and the media had to swallow it. The media could not throw their spears of loaded questions and false, misinterpreted judgment labels or fake fabricated charges of racism and bigotry. We do not always have to say politically correct nice things about everyone, we can praise, honor and love and we criticize and denounce anybody who we feel deserves it based on their behavior and actions. Nick Kyrgios had just lost to Grigor Dimitrov. His dream to win his first major was shattered. It was probably the worst, most excruciating moment of his career. To be playing the best tennis of his life with an entire nation vehemently supporting and backing his Herculean efforts...fighting with every ounce of passion and fury he could muster, only to helplessly watch Dimitrov's running forehand winner at 4-6 in the fourth set tiebreaker end the epic showdown 67 67 64 67.
Head bowed, mind spinning, heart burning, eyes deadened, body limp, Kyrgios strode to the net a defeated man. Instead of the perfunctory, hollow handshake, Kyrgios showed his unpredictable nature yet again. Continue to read full article...

Just over a year ago Angelique Kerber had the tennis world at her feet. With 2 grand slam titles in 2016, a silver gold medal in the Rio Olympics and the world number 1 ranking, everyone thought she would surely take over the reins of an aging Serena Williams. In fact to win the 2016 Australian Open she defeated Serena, arguably the best ever women’s player to win her first Grand Slam.
But 2017 was a horror year for the German. Continue to read full article...

I believe it is Grigor Dimitrov's time to finally win his first major. He's suffered enough and paid his dues and now the time has come to take the throne and wear the crown.
I see a change in Dimitrov's court demeanor. Previously he was the nice guy who played tennis as if he was wearing a top hat and tuxedo, reluctant to get down and dirty, hesitant to summon his "crazed dogs" mentality, a term famously uttered by the great New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor. In front of a packed Rod Laver arena crowd on Friday night, Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has shown not only is he a force to be reckoned with, but one to inspire the world too. With Hollywood star Will Smith watching courtside, it took the 22 year-old just over 3 hours to despatch his 3rd round French opponent, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(5).
Not a usual day in the office for the brash Aussie, candidly admitting his elation and surprise at having his idol peering on. Continue to read full article...

In soaring hot conditions on Rod Laver Arena, former world number 1 Novak Djokovic took to the court in the middle of the day at the Australian Open for his 2nd round clash with in-form Frenchman Gael Monfils.
Novak’s sluggish and in his words “nervous” start contributed to uncharacteristic unforced errors and double faults allowing Monfils to rack up 2 breaks of serve to lead 3-0. Then with Monfils attempting to be more aggressive his error rate increased letting Djokovic break back, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Frenchman winning the 1st set 6-4.
