Day 2 Wrap Up From Memphis

By Amanda H. LeMay The day matches in Memphis went pretty much as expected. Sergiy Stakhovsky defeated qualifier Robert Kendrick in two and James Blake fell rather meekly to fellow American Ryan Sweeting in two as well. Blake’s brother, Thomas, was in attendance and even stopped to pose for pictures and sign autographs as he left the main stadium. Also in action for the day session was 2010 champ Sam Querrey who defeated Alejandro Falla in three. Sam struggled on serve but managed to take advantage of Falla’s errors when it counted. Brad Gilbert was courtside to support his new protégé. Continue to read full article...

Day 1 Wrap Up From Memphis

By Amanda H. LeMay Although there weren't many ATP matches on Monday, the Racquet Club in Memphis was bustling with energy as players were arriving and fans started pouring in for the first rounds. Starting off the day was the 8th seed Bernard Tomic who had been in town since Friday, helped out with the draw and took in a Memphis Grizzlies NBA game Saturday night. Many thought he might go far in the draw after a great start to the season in Australia but the big hitting Croatian, Continue to read full article...

A Memphis Preview

By Amanda H. LeMay Friday I got the chance to attend my first draw ceremony at the Regions Morgan Keegan championships in Memphis. As Bernard Tomic came in to assist the tournament director with the draw you could really feel the anticipation in the air. Tomic became the 8th seed after Gael Monfils and Marin Cilic had to withdraw due to injuries. He drew for himself Ivan Dodig, the big hitter from Croatia. Continue to read full article...

Meet Our Memphis Correspondent, Amanda H. LeMay

For the second year in a row, our correspondent Amanda H. LeMay will cover the ATP Memphis event. A tennis observer since first seeing Andre Agassi sporting denim shorts and his rock star hairdoo, Amanda still has an appreciation for the quirkier characters of tennis, particularly Marat Safin and more currently, Ernests Gulbis. Her first article for Tennis-prose.com was the outstanding essay "Why I Love Tennis" (see below). Here's more about Amanada... Continue to read full article...

Sam Querrey Struggling

American tennis hopeful Sam Querrey lost again in San Jose, in three tough sets to Denis Istomin. Q-Ball, who was ranked #17 in the world one year ago, is ranked #85 right now. Last year he missed a big portion of the year with an arm injury. By Ganapathy Viswanathan I am a big tennis fan. Or am I really? I am raising this introspective question because I am beginning to realize that being fond of certain players isn’t the same as loving the sport itself. Over the years of watching this wonderful sport, I am now beginning to realize that I may be evolving (or maturing) as a tennis fan and with a bit of luck, even as a person! Shoe Review: Wilson Tour Vision II

By Scoop Malinowski I haven't worn a Wilson shoe since the white orange and black Crossfires (loved the look and performance) from a decade ago. But last month I played a top senior player in Florida on Har Tru and I noticed his movement was excellent and he was never off balance. I inspected the sole of Jack's Wilson shoe and saw the deep herringbone tread and the cool look of the exterior and quickly decided to begin wearing Wilson again. Slipping and sliding on Har Tru has been a problem for my game, along with finding comfort for my feet while playing five times a week on primarily hard court. Maybe just maybe Wilson is the answer to my tennis footing troubles. Continue to read full article...

Davis Cup Weekend, Let’s Talk About It

Mardy Fish is down two sets to one to Stan in Switzerland. Mardy has lost his mojo and 2012 is looking like it's going to be a frustrating year for the American who has the best year of his long career in 2011. Jim Courier is still wearing his suit on the U.S. team bench. Continue to read full article...
