TAG: What’s the impact of Schiavone’s Miracle Run at the French?

It’s a great story. The plucky, small, Italian with the one-handed backhand (sacre bleu? sorry about my French), soon to be 30-years-old, never a factor before in a Slam, wins the French Open. But is it good for the women’s game or does it taint its image? I argue the latter.

Firstly, this would never happen in the men’s game. Even a Thomas Johansson or Peter Korda were players with more game on the men’s side than Schiavone on the women’s side, when they won Slams. I’m happy that an “Ova” didn’t win it, but if Stosur had won, at least you could say she really deserved it after beating Henin and Serena.
