That First US Open Qualification

Tracy Almeda-SingianI witnessed Christian Harrison and Taylor Townsend qualify yesterday with exciting victories to experience the very special joy of earning a spot in the US Open main draw – so I asked a friend and former WTA professional Tracy Singian if she remembers her special memories about the first time she qualified for the US Open main draw.

Her response: “Absolutely. Happiness, relief, fatigue and the love of the crowd. Awesome to live to fight another day.” “I actually don’t remember who I beat in last round to qualify, but was down match points first round against Patricia Wartusch.”

Singian’s qualifying win was a special one which did not exactly come on a silver platter: “I was cramping, detonating, fighting, and then pulled out a tiebreaker in third to then go on to qualify. I remember Mrs. Roddick (Andy’s mom) taking a photo of me with the scoreboard and celebrating with my cousin.”
