Marcelo Rios “not doing well physically” says Bollettieri

riosmagI spoke with Nick Bollettieri at the Eddie Herr tourney this week and he revealed the not very good news that his ex player Marcelo Rios “is not doing well physically.” There is an unknown issue with the health of the 40 year old Rios which Nick spoke cryptically about in a worryingly ominous tone of voice.

So everyone say a prayer for Rios that he can have a speedy recovery. Rios was the ATP No 1 ranked player for six weeks in 1998 after he defeated Andre Agassi in three straight sets in the Lipton final in Key Biscayne.

Rios was reportedly hospitalized for over a week four years ago because of a serious headache issue.

The sad tone Nick spoke about this earlier this week was disconcerting for this Rios supporter – Get well buddy –

What’s Bollettieri like these days? Does he look good? He is in his 80’s, can he still move around ok and is his mind sharp?

Dan I think Nick is 86 and he’s healthy though a little hunched over but still sharp and alert and social as always – it’s funny that this place is the place that Nick built but I don’t think he has any official capacity here anymore – he was passing out cards for his new web site –
