Tough, tough tennis trivia question

Tense_Rafa

Someone on Twitter asked Brad Gilbert last year and again this year – with no response – this super challenging tennis trivia question: Who are the six players who have wins over Federer, Nadal, Sampras and Agassi?

BG must be stumped because he hasn’t answered, as of yet.

I’ve come up with these player so far: Hewitt, Spadea, and possibly Roddick and Hrbaty, but not sure of the last two, if Roddick ever beat Agassi or if Hrbaty beat Sampras or Agassi.

Come on, Tennis-prose.com readers, let’s try to solve this tricky trivia challenge…

With Scoop’s hyperbole about inept American tennis players and all the slams they’re going to win, thought I’d make him cry. Have a look at this 14 yr old Canadian kid who made it through qualifying at his first challenger tournament but then had to withdraw due to an abdominal injury – youngest player to ever qualify. Now two months later made he’s done it again – through qualifying and this time played first round and won his match. Youngest player ever to be ranked by the ATP.

This article has video of him playing plus a replay of his whole match. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/eh-game/montreal-s-f%C3%A9lix-auger-aliassime–just-14–making-noise-on-the-pro-tennis-circuit-154455578.html

Then today, to have more jaws dropping, he won his second match and is into the quarters. All the centre court matches in Granby are being streamed (http://www.sportcategory.com/c-4.html) so you can watch his next match for yourself – 6:30 pm EDT Friday. He’s really really impressive for a young guy and for 14 is phenomenal. Eat your heart out Scoop. He’s Canadian.

Sharoten, I’ve heard about this kid last year at Eddie Herr some of the international coaches were talking about him. Felix Auger Aliasine. We have our first new super teen marvel phenom since Rafa, Seles, Becker, Capriati. It’s just absolutely magical that a fourteen year old kid is beating veteran pros in ATP Challengers. This is amazing, perhaps even more amazing than when the fourteen year old Rafa Nadal beat Pat Cash in the exo in Spain. Perhaps Felix Ali is going to be the heir apparent to Djokovic? Thanks for sharing the links with out readers and welcome to the site.

Young dude looks good, and getting to Challenger quarters at 14 is surreal, but Wolmarens he beat is ranked No. 597.

Hewitt, Spadea, Roddick and Hrbaty are the guys who beat all 4, but there are also 3 other players who achieved it: F.Gonzalez, J.Novak and A. Corretja!

And Auger Aliassime is ranked #1237. And he’s 14 years old!!!! He beat King, ranked #196, yesterday and today he’s beating Nishioka who is ranked #145. And he’s 14 years old!!!!

Sharoten, this is AMAZING what Felix Auger Aliassime is doing, this is beyond amazing, this beyond Rafa, beyond Tiger Woods, this must be a Twilight Zone episode or something. FOUR TEEN YEARS OLD??? You cannot be SERIOUS.

  • Gonzalo · July 25, 2015 at 4:58 pm

I’m sorry… Tommy has not beaten Nadal. My mistake

Haas has had a fantastic career, #2 in the world, longevity, some great wins over legends, I’d say he’s had a better career than some major winners and some hall of famers, in sum. Great player. Welcome to the site Gonzalo.

Dimitrov training with Lendl rumors. This is the big smart bold move Super G needed to make. Breaking up with Sharapova was also a smart move, the emasculating perception was Dimitrov was the second fiddle to Queen Maria, great champions don’t play secondary subservient roles. Interesting summer for Dimitrov it will be.

Felix Auger-Aliassime did not win his QF match in Granby but he is now in the Top 800 in ATP rankings and I read somewhere that he is the youngest ever to achieve this.
In his interviews, given in both French and English, he comes across as a charming, level-headed kid, so I hope his career will follow his early promise. Lots of experts are praising him, including Brad Gilbert. Felix trains at the Tennis Canada national training centre in Montreal, and their officials wisely say they are taking things slowly – they want him to continue to enjoy his tennis.

haas was / is awesome !
    felix’s week was unbelievable at 14 !!

Haas has had a fantastic career, and borderline Hall of Fame, so close, to winning majors, so close to number one, so many comebacks, I think special cases can be made for Haas and Rios to be Hall of Famers. Long shots yes, but both have achieved excellent careers with unique distinctions. Dimitrov with Lendl still might not be enough to take him to a major title, be interesting to see if Lendl takes the job because if Lendl believes Dimitrov has the goods, you have to respect that belief. Lendl Knows.
