Random Tennis Player Biofile: Dominick DeCarlo

Interviewed At: Longboat Key Club at Longboat Key, FL.

From: Fort Lee, NJ. Member at Oritani Field Club in Hackensack, NJ.

First Tennis Memory: “Playing with my buddy Bruce Grazing.”

Tennis Inspiration: “I wanted to win the 35s and I did it.”

Greatest Tennis Moment: “I guess winning the Bergen County 35s two years in a row (in Franklin Lakes).”

Most Painful Tennis Moment: “I lost a doubles match with my buddy Papa love and love a year ago. Maybe having five match points against Paul Lee and not converting. Bad memory. At Oritani (Field Club). Club match.”

Strangest Match: “I played some girl who was going to play at Wimbledon in doubles – Penny Johnson. I challenged her in doubles and I beat her 2 and 3. In Fort Myers. She wanted to quit tennis after that. I played a ranked player from Arizona, I beat him in the 35s at Upper Ridgewood. After the match he said I was the worst player he ever played. I said, Hell if I’m the worst you must really be a bum because I beat him 3 and 3.”

Favorite Tennis Book: “Zone 5 Instruction By Nick Bollettieri.”

Favorite Players To Watch: “Djokovic. Nadal. Borg. And my daughter Lauren, I love watching her play.”

Why Do You Love Playing Tennis: “It’s like life. It tells you a lot. You can never stop learning.”

Shoes You Play In: “Babolat, New Balance.”

Racquet You Play With: “Wilson Sledgehammer.”

First Famous Tennis Player You Met: “I guess it was Steve Siegel. He was famous in the New Jersey area.”

Funny Tennis Memory: “I played with a Romanian player who said Borg came to play against the entire Romanian Davis Cup team for practice and he won all 30 sets by 6-0. No one was able to win a game off him.”
