A very strong field in Memphis, hopefully Raonic is good to do with that knee. Roddick and La Monf coming off injuries too. Curious to see how Bogie rebounds off his Davis Cup horror debut and how Isner plays after crushing Federer in Switzerland. The return of Tomic and Cilic. Memphis always seems to have a very good event.

Bogie is actually playing this week, already won a match in Rotterdam. Dr. Ivo could be a sleeper, coming off his Davis Cup triumph.

Let’s hope for Isner vs. Rochus.

Wow what a photo Steve! That’s like Muggsy Bogues taking on Patrick Ewing. Another interesting sidestory at Memphis is that Isner could overtake Roddick as the #2 American. A-Rod has to defend the title otherwise he will lose a chunk of points. Wonder if Isner will be as diplomatic and almost deferential about overstepping Roddick in the rankings.

Alright, here’s even a more shocking photo than Isner-Rochus.

Pretty good field for what is is. Which reminds me of an article for you. Though I would imagine it will require a lot of research.

The state of appearance fees on the ATP tour. What is the official policy, if any. What goes on. What tournaments pay. Who gets paid. How much.

If it exists there is something unseemly about promoting a tournament as having a certain distribution of prize money without disclosing appearance money that may, in some cases, exceed the money at issue in a match.

On Gulbis — what good is talent without drive.

Remember that commercial for the United Negro College Fund: A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Tennis talent is a terrible thing to waste too. I may start wearing it on my shirt to Gulbis matches.
