Delray Beach ATP Begins

This has always been one of the highlight events of the season for Tennis-prose.com. Outside perhaps of the US Open and Newport, we have covered this event more than any other tournament on the schedule.

It’s a classic smaller event located in the alluring town of Delray Beach, just a few steps from the main street area and no more than a seven minute walk from the Atlantic Ocean.

Players are often seen walking around town, the beach, biking, so there is an intimacy that some of the bigger tournaments are missing.

The qualies have begun with 33 year old veteran Victor Hanescu surviving a three setter with James McGee.

American vet Robby Ginepri defeated Gianni Mina.

But Ryan Harrison dropped out of qualies with a case of the flu and Jared Donaldson lost.

An interesting first round match up on Monday or Tuesday pits Tim Smyczek vs. wildcard seventeen year old Stefan Kozlov, who defeated Tim at the California Challenger last October.

Isner, Anderson, Tomic, Young, Dolgopolov, Karlovic, Steve Johnson are all ready to rock and roll, Delray Style.

See you in Delray tomorrow…
