Another interesting day of tennis at the Elizabeth Moore Sarasota Open featured major young talents and an old fogie who can still get the job done. Jurgen Melzer, age 35 and ranked lower than his brother Gerald outside the top 100, struggled to handle Darian King but was able to get the job done in three sets. Melzer was once No. 8 in the world looks a tad slower and less explosive than his heyday years. Mezler will play Facundo Arguello in the next round. Arguello, Mr. Cramps/Underhand Serves/FootFaults defeated Christian Harrison today. Continue to read full article...

Sarasota Open: Twilight Zone Match Arguello vs Giron

Image may contain: outdoor
The wackiest match I ever saw happened today at the Sarasota Open. It was Facundo Arguello vs Marcos Giron on James Driscoll stadium court. I didn't see it all but I saw enough. Giron won the first set 7-5, though I did not see it. Arguello wont he second 7-5, which featured a long injury timeout at the end of the set which obviously froze Giron. Arguello was on his back being attended to. There also was a loud argument between the umpire and Arguello I think at the end of the first set which I only heard because I was watching Kozlov vs Blaz Rola on the Firkins Stadium 2. Sarasota Open Intrigue

Image may contain: one or more people, people playing sports and outdoor
The word of the day at day one of this year's Elizabeth Moore Sarasota Open was "intrigue." I was absolutely intrigued on several fronts.  First of all, the event is now at a new venue - The United Tennis Club on the El Conquistador Parkway - just a mile or so around the corner from IMG Academy. And the event seems to fit perfectly into the small quarters of the facility which has staged various exhibitions over the years including Rod Laver vs Warren Girle back in the 1970s. Querrey Reflects On Davis Cup Defeat vs Australia

Qball By Jayita A Belcourt At the Davis Cup quarter-finals clash between USA and Australia last weekend in Brisbane (Australia), world no.25 Sam Querrey found himself in precarious grounds. Trailing 1-2 going into the reverse singles on Day 3, Querrey knew the significance of this clash. Secure a victory and keep USA’s hopes alive or shatter his countries Davis Cup title dream for 2017. Unfortunately for the bubbly American, a very inform and focused Nick Kyrgios stood in his tracks. Beaming with confidence and striking the ball with phenomenal precision and grace, the young Aussie’s display was so impressive tennis great and USA captain Jim Courier later labelled him as a “top 5 player”.
