Jack Sock Practice Fun, Citi Open Wednesday
8 Comments · Posted by Scoop Malinowski in Articles, Scoop
Watching Jack Sock practice on the day of a match is more entertaining than some live pro matches. Sock is an entertainer, who likes to have fun and enjoy the sport and the moment.
Today, in the early afternoon Sock was hitting with Isner, before his early evening showdown with Raonic on stadium court (Isner later lost in a third set tiebreak to Steve Johnson, double faulting at 6-6). Continue to read full article...

Whoa…Paire and Karlovic almost threw down at Citi Open
23 Comments · Posted by Scoop Malinowski in Articles, Scoop
Benoit Paire and Dr. Ivo Karlovic had a marathon battle. The good doctor prevailed on a chilly DC night on the far out court 76 67 76. The fun began in the second set breaker where Paire saved a handful of match points and finally eked the set out after Ivo double faulted at eleven all. Paire roared a a few ferocious comeons and fist pumps. He really really wanted this one.
The third set was a dandy, they battled again all the way to a tiebreak. Continue to read full article...

I arrive around 3. Hewitt is hitting with Istomin. Paire and Matosevic are with players I can't identify.
The Citi Open layout has changed a lot since I was last here about five years ago with Dan. More courts, newer courts. Kuznetsova is on stadium but most of the fans are walking around watching practices. Continue to read full article...

As a current Federal Government professional and "part-time" aspiring writer I
had the good fortune to link up with author and friend Scoop Malinowski and
assist in his media coverage at this years edition of the Citi Open in
Washington D.C. It has been a great experience watching the professionalism in
the media room with various media and tournament personnel working the event. A
top 20 ATP event bolstering a strong field loaded with top 20 talent, the event
offers a chance to see players physically fresh on their journey through the
summer US OPEN series. Continue to read full article...

Victor Estrella Burgos started playing tennis in the Dominican Republic, not exactly a hotbed of state of the art coaching, tennis training facilities or heritage and tradition. "Everybody is asking that question. I think it's...personally, I think they're spoiled. I don't think they know how to work hard. They get everything handed to them on a platter. Continue to read full article...

McEnroe Interviews Noah Rubin On ESPN Radio
19 Comments · Posted by Scoop Malinowski in Articles, Scoop
John McEnroe is a Renaissance man. And he's everywhere.
I received a Tweet yesterday from the New York Rangers that Henrik Lundqvist was about to be interviewed in a few minutes by John McEnroe on ESPN Radio at 4. Say what?
So with curiosity, I tuned in. McEnroe is guest co-hosting the Michael Kay Show with Don La Greca on ESPN Radio. After Lundqvist, McEnroe and La Greca interviewed Aaron Boone at the All Star Game about Derek Jeter, then came a surprise. At 4:45 Noah Rubin, the newly crowned junior Wimbledon champion, was coming on the show. Continue to read full article...
