Denis Istomin Biofile

P1010638 First Tennis Memory: "When I came on the court with my mom (Klaudiya Istomina), she was coach. And I just take the racquet and go hit the ball on the wall. And I was like playing for two hours on the wall. That's my first memory of tennis." Tennis Inspirations: "Everybody wants to be a good player, win a Grand Slam, be No. 1. So for me, the same." Del Potro Loves Hewitt

P9030155 I first Biofiled Del Potro about six years ago here at the US Open. The first question I asked him was who were your childhood heroes? Del Potro answered, "Lleyton Hewitt." Whenever the two play, there is always enormous respect given, especially by Delpo to his hero Hewitt. Continue to read full article...

The Wisdom of Pancho Segura

2908-212048 Pancho Segura was on the grounds again today, the 92 year old legend was being wheeled around in his chair by son Spencer next to the Sock-Gonzo match fourth set. I was able to collect these nuggets of wisdom from the Hall of Famer... Tomic: I like him very much. He might become the best player in the world. He's got everything. He can play the net more. He can serve. I love his slice backhand. Very good at baseline." Continue to read full article...

Thrilling Thursday

McHale was in a battle with Elena Svitolina of Ukraine on Grandstand. Christina was up a set and break with a 40-15 lead but blew it. McHale lost the second then totally changed her clothes, red skirt, white long sleeve top, white vispr gone, third set she looked like a different player after coming out […] Continue to read full article...

Wacky Wednesday

2808-123011 Actually saw a black cat run between bleachers on court 4 under a man's wheelchair at the Dolgopolov-Goffin match. Minutes later there was a bolt of lightning in the distance as rain threatened. They kept on playing, Dolgopolov playing with an urgency and intensity I have never seen before. When the rains came a few minutes later, Dolgo was up two sets and on serve 3-4 in the third. Continue to read full article...

Super Tuesday US Open with Live Updates

ashe Walking in I see Roger Federer signing after practice on the P courts. Fans are going crazy, I hear one saying with almost uncontrollable passion, "Oh Roger I love you." Another says something about his smile. Roger just keeps his head down and signs, not really interacting. After a couple minutes he's done and walks by. I say, "Roger, I know you're a Rios fan, this is for you." He accepts my Marcelo Rios book and says thank you. Continue to read full article...

Day One US Open Live updates

2608-121616[1] Jumping on the seven train I ran into pal Bill Boggs, remember him? He's on way here too, going to get his girlfriend first. He said he'll be sitting in a box by umpire chair on Ashe. Nishikori has lost the first set to Brit Daniel Evans. Rejuventated Tursunov took the first set from Bedene. Lauren Davis is getting hammered by 18 seed Carla Suarez Navarro 0-6 0-3. The Marcelo Rios Family Praised My Book

atpl I was fortunate to meet Marcelo Rios and his mom and dad tonight at the Waldorf Astoria ATP Number One Celebration on Friday night. I am very proud that they all read and enjoyed the book. After the formal part of the celebration, the Rios group stayed for a while after and were conversing up front near the stage, with his former agent Jeff Schwartz and a few others. His dad Jorge approached me first introducing himself as Jorge Rios the father of Marcelo. Continue to read full article...

P1011183 Huge crowd on hand for Arthur Ashe Kids Day. I mean HUGE. Metal detectors everywhere I guess for the First Lady's visit. All courts have kids, no practices, except grandstand (McHale and Hampton) and Armstrong (Djokovic and Kohlschreiber). Djokovic seems disgusted with his play, banging his racquet on his shoes, punching his strings, not with furious rage but a demeanor of frustration, like he just can't get his game into fifth gear. Another negative body language express is how he also lifts his head and looks up to the sky. Continue to read full article...
